Ting-Ting Yang

Ting-Ting Yang, a Taiwanese composer and collaborative pianist, won first prize at the New Music Initiative for Composers in the United States, with her works performed in Singapore, Taiwan, and the U.S. She has collaborated at international festivals and with ensembles, and will serve as Visiting Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech.

Ting-Ting Yang, a native of Taipei, began her piano studies at the age of six, joined a percussion ensemble in elementary school, and started composing at thirteen. Her works have been performed in Singapore, Taiwan, and the United States, and she continues to develop her craft in both collaborative piano and composition.

Her recent compositions include Approaching (2022) and Stand at the Corner (2021), commissioned by the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra in Singapore. She has also explored remote collaborations, resulting in Floating Rhyme (2021). Her orchestral piece, Portal, won first prize at the New Music Initiative Composition Competition in North Carolina, USA, and received its premiere there.


Beyond composition, Yang boasts extensive experience in collaborative piano. Her engagements include recording the opera Kassandra, performing as a pianist for Musiqa Houston concerts, serving as a collaborative pianist at the Thailand International Trombone Festival, Jacobs Summer String Academy, and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Her performances have taken her across Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, and Thailand.

She will start the role of Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice, Collaborative Piano, at Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts (USA) this month. Her composition teachers have included Ching-Yu Hsiao, Peter Edwards, and Ho Chee-Kong. She has studied piano with Jing-Lan Chang, Li-Chun Wang, Virginia Weckstrom, Anne Epperson and others.
